New Albany, MS – 5/13/2016 – Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market in downtown New Albany on the Tallahatchie Riverbank will start its fifth year Saturday, June 4th with an abundant produce selection and a plant sale by the Union County Master Gardeners. The market will be open every Saturday in June, July and August from 7:30 am to 10:30 am.
Produce, herbs, dairy, meat, dairy, grains, eggs, pasta, bread, canned goods, flowers, plants and crafts will be sold at the market this year. Sugaree’s Bakery will host a Neon Pig Kiosk this year and sell meats and cheeses from regional and local sustainable farms. Live Music, a hot breakfast booth, a kids’ art trailer, and free printed vegetable recipes will be promoted each week.
Also new this year is the acceptance of EBT cards and SNAP benefits, as well as credit cards.
Each Saturday in July, a CSA inspired “Jam Box” will be offered for pre-sale and will include a wide variety of produce from the vendors.
The first ten weeks of the market will run concurrent with the Levitt AMP New Albany Concert Series presented by Sugaree’s Bakery, leaving all afternoon for attendees of the farmers’ market to shop, dine, and enjoy a plethora of recreational activities in downtown New Albany, such as disc golf, bicycle trails, kayaking, soccer fields and tennis courts, before heading to the Park Along the River with picnic baskets and coolers for more free live music in the evenings.
Sugaree’s Bakery, will be providing free biscuits and jams made with local fruits to the 1st 50 people. After that, anyone can get a free biscuit with a purchase from the hot breakfast vendor, Lezlie Simmons, who will also be selling locally roasted coffee donated by sponsor, High Point Coffee Roasters.
The primary market sponsors are: the City of New Albany, Union County Master Gardeners, and Sugaree’s Bakery.
Eligible growers and vendors must pay a $35.00 fee. Grower applications and rules can be picked up at the Union County Extension Office or Sugaree’s Bakery. Certificates of application must be visibly displayed while selling at the market.
