Members of the Union County Sheriff’s Department found the body of 49-year-old Scott McQuary Tuesday morning in a sand pit off County Road 14.
The case was under investigation Tuesday but Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said no foul play was suspected and he had been dead some time.
The West Union man was last seen Saturday before last morning and his family had not heard from him since the day before.
McQuary, a construction worker, had received his paycheck that Friday but not cashed it, and his cell phone was either turned off or the battery was dead. Officers had gotten some data concerning the phone’s last active location but it was only partially valuable and was somewhere in the National Forest area west of the Enterprise community where cell service is spotty anyway.
The sheriff said McQuary had not been found earlier because the location was outside the usual area he might be in or the routes he might take.
Edwards said officials and family had been searching for the man even using a helicopter, and the family wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and help in the search.
United Funeral Service will be in charge of arrangements and information about services will be available later.
