Christmas on Bankhead featured tree lighting Thursday

,

New Albany children and parents had a cool, clear evening Thursday to visit and have their photo made with Santa as well as see the lighting of the community Christmas tree at Christmas on Bankhead.

New Albany police escorted Santa to Cooper Park where a crowd lined up for a photo and visit at the Main Street event. Hot chocolate was available from New Albany and Union County Anchor Club members and rides were available from the Mississippi Smooth Carriage Service.

Clint Reid provided live vocals followed by music from Midnight Train and the Union County Library Staff was there to hand out take-home crafts.

The highlight beside the visit with Santa was the lighting of the tree by Ivy Jordan, New Albany’s Miss Hospitality, and her Junior Miss, Skylar Grace Wilson.

This was the only community Christmas event in that the New Albany Christmas Parade was cancelled due to concerns over spreading the coronavirus.

Below are random photos of the tree-lighting celebration.
