Blue Springs couple in custody after 120-mhp chase in and out of three counties

,

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said a Blue Springs couple was taken into custody early Wednesday evening after a high-speed pursuit that at times got over 120 mph and ranged in and out of three counties.

Edwards had only preliminary information because the investigation was still in its early stages Wednesday evening but said the couple are Richard Williams and Ginger Williams, whom he believes live on County Road 180.

Edwards said the incident began when deputies tried to make a traffic stop on a white Camaro with no tag near the intersection of County Road 188 and 193 in the Fairfield community in the eastern part of the county.

The suspects failed to stop and increased speed rapidly with deputies giving pursuit.

“They went into Lee County, back into Union County, Lee County, Prentiss County, Brice’s Crossroads and, finally Baldwyn,” he said. “They were over 120 miles an hour a couple of times.”

Union County deputies were joined by MHP Troopers and Baldwyn police. Once the pursuit got into heavier traffic in the Baldwyn area, the car slowed down and was eventually hemmed in by several patrol cars, the sheriff said.

The two were taken into custody without further incident and no one was hurt in the chase.

“He and she both showed warrants out of Pontotoc County on NCIC (National Crime Information Center database),” the sheriff said, but officers had not had time to learn what the charges were for.

No narcotics were found in the car, but if either suspect had any drugs they could easily have been tossed out during the chase, he said.

“We’re going to charge them with felony fleeing,” Edwards said. “And I’m going to talk to MBI (Mississippi Bureau of Investigation) because they may bring charges since this was in several counties.”

Edwards also noted that the female apparently tried to get out of the car several times. “But he had her by the hair and wouldn’t let her go,” he said, so that could add another charge for the male suspect.

Edwards may announce further charges later but it was not known when the two could go before a judge or whether bond would be set.
