Library has mobile hot spots for checkout

Union County Library Director Sissy Bullock is reminding the public that the library has mobile hot spots that can be checked out by patrons.

She said the program, now several months old, is proving to be popular with as many as 14 people on a waiting list at times.

The devices, about the size of a cell phone, provide internet access even if the user does not have access to a wired internet connection. Bullock said the devices apparently work well in just about any part of the county.

A mobile hot spot can be checked out for a week. There is no charge but the patron does have to sign acknowledging the use policy. Also, there is a higher fine for overdue hot spots than for other library materials.

Of course the library continues to offer free computer use inside the building and some assistance is offered for those unfamiliar with the computers or commonly used software.

The free library wifi is available 24 hours a day and people often come to the library parking lot after hours or on weekends to take advantage of that free wifi.
