As of yesterday, December 20th, Mississippi’s total deaths were at 4409, and December’s deaths had hit 593.

This means that  157 more Mississippians have died since our post of December 16th detailing the need for giving due credence to official calls for continued daily precautions.

December 2020 now has posted over 51% more deaths than all of November 2020. Yet some citizens appear to be trying to see just how high they can make the totals go.

As of this posting, Benton is the only one of Northeast Mississippi’s fifteen counties not singled out for special precautions by Executive Order.  So, HEADS UP, Alcorn, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Clay, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Monroe, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union. THIS MEANS YOU!

Though many are already celebrating the Christmas holidays, the largest events of the season are yet to come: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day 2021. Maintaining current behavior patterns will be deadly.

  • At the current rate of deaths, at least 220 additional Mississippians cannot expect to celebrate all those holidays.
  • Over 4600 folks who ushered in the 2020 New Year will not live to see 2021. This is all “Excessive Deaths,” those not predicted by average deaths for previous years.
  • As of 11-28-2020, there were more than 5800 deaths over  the predicted average for 2020 to date.

All Mississippians need to consider whether our behavior will contribute further to these sad statistics, no matter what county we call home.
