MSDH Covid-19 update: March 28, 2020

Northeast MS news Covid-19 stats

About the case count: The MS Department of Health currently updates its map and statistics each morning with test results from the previous day. Outside laboratories also report positive test results, which are included the totals.

Mississippi statistics

This morning MSDH is reporting 84 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi identified by testing from the state Public Health Laboratory and private testing providers. Five new deaths have also been confirmed, in DeSoto, Lee, Perry, Sunflower and Tippah counties. The state total of cases now stands at 663, with 13 deaths. AS of yesterday, 33% of the positive patients were hospitalized.

 

Nationwide statistics:

  • The Johns Hopkins Tracking Project, as of 11:20 AM today (March 28) reports 105,573 confirmed cases in the US.
  • The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updates reports nationwide cases of COVID-19 at noon Mondays through Fridays. Numbers close out at 4 p.m. the day before reporting. NEMiss.NEWS will update the figures below when information is available from the CDC on March 30.

    • Total US deaths: 1246  (+25

Protect others:

  • Stay home if you are sick, and avoid close contact with anyone who is ill.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes. When possible, cough, sneeze or blow your nose into a tissue, and throw the tissue away.
  • If you are sick, especially with shortness of breath, severe cough, fever or severe chest pain, call a doctor or healthcare provider for instructions on being safely examined.

Protect yourself away from home

  • Avoid social and community gatherings where 10 people or more would come into close contact.
  • Practice social distancing advice below when your are in a group of people.
  • Avoid unnecessary (non-urgent) air, bus or train travel.
  • Limit visitation to older relatives or friends (especially in nursing or care homes).
