MS Covid-19 update 26APR20: MS nearing 6000 cases mark -

About the case count: The MS Department of Health currently updates its map and statistics each morning with test results from the previous day that were reported by 6:00 PM that day. Outside laboratories also report positive test results, which are included the totals. County case numbers and deaths may change as investigation finds new or additional information.

Mississippi statistics

Reported April 26, 2020:

Today MSDH is reporting 193 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and six new deaths. Mississippi’s total COVID-19 cases since March 11 now stands at 5,911, with 227 deaths.

The number of Mississippians currently hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 infection has fallen to 397. However 146 of those hospitalized are in ICU units, with 67 reportedly on ventilators; this is down from 152 in ICU, 78 on ventilators on April 24th.

Thirty-eight (19.6%) of these new cases were among residents in long-term care facilities.

The MSDH website is now carrying more information on cases by race and by underlying health condition such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.

Northeast MS statistics area by county:

Northeast MS reported 23 new positive Covid-19 cases in 8 counties. There was 1 additional death in NE Miss; the area’s total stands at 41 deaths from coronavirus 12 counties. 175 (27%) of Northeast Mississippi’s positive coronavirus cases are in nursing homes in 10 counties.
