About the case count: The MS Department of Health currently updates its map and statistics each morning with test results from the previous day. Outside laboratories also report positive test results, which are included the totals.

Mississippi statistics

The Mississippi Department of Health reports 89 new cases of Covid-19 throughout the state. Two new deaths have been confirmed, one each in Amite and Leflore counties. Alcorn reported its first case. These reports, as of March 29 at 6:00 PM , bring Mississippi statewide totals to 847 cases and 16 deaths..  Mississippi deaths have been in those over 60 years of age. 32% of Mississippi cases are hospitalized.

Nationwide statistics

The Johns Hopkins Tracking Project, as of 11 AM today (March 30) reports 144,672  confirmed cases in the US. This is up from 125,313 on March 29.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updates reports nationwide cases of COVID-19 at noon Mondays through Fridays. Numbers close out at 4 p.m. the day before reporting. NEMiss.NEWS will update the figures below when information is available from the CDC on March 30.

  • Total US cases: 122,653(+ 37,297) up from Friday’s report
  • Total US deaths: 2112  (+866) from Friday

The CDC reminds that there is a domestic travel advisory in place for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Alcorn County reports its first coronavirus case; Chickasaw, Lafayette, Lee and  Pontotoc counties report additional cases.

Statewide coronavirus testing sites available:

Northeast Mississippi medical providers are making COVID-19 testing available through locations statewide.

These are not Mississippi State Department of Health testing sites. Local testing providers below have informed us that they are providing fast-track COVID-19 testing locations.

Cost: Individual test providers will set their own testing fee. Ask about the cost of testing when you call a test provider

These providers require that you have symptoms of COVID-19 in order to be tested: a fever of 100.4 or greater and severe cough or chest pain.

You should call ahead before visiting to make testing arrangements.
