NAFD and Red Cross are planning to partner once again for Fire Safety and Smoke Alarm availability including installation. Information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.

Smoke Alarms, Codes, and Community Risk Reduction Programs save lives and assist with Property Conservation.

A little after midnight on Tuesday 5/3 NAFD crews were dispatched to a structure fire at 116 Ferris Circle with reports of a person inside.

Upon arrival crews went into action and started with accountability of the residents. Mom and 2 children were outside, and the father was still inside attempting to keep the fire under control until we could arrive. The husband exited with firefighters and the situation was brought under control.

The fire initiated in the wall of a bedroom and appeared to be an electrical issue. Smoke was removed from the home, and an ambulance was requested to the scene to assist the resident and assess any conditions due to smoke. No other injuries were reported, and the damage was minimal from the fire, smoke, and water.

The extent of the damage to the electrical system to the home will have to be determined by a licensed electrician.

“This is a prime example of the importance of smoke alarms in our homes. The residents were alerted early enough by the smoke alarm to escape the home and have a positive outcome this morning. This is just proves the importance of community risk reduction, and reassures our decision to reach out to our Red Cross chapter and partner up to offer our residents smoke alarms just as soon as we can get everything worked out and in place,” said New Albany Fire Chief Mark Whiteside.

NEMiss.News will post information on the fire alarm program when it becomes available.
