New Albany Police Department (NAPD) officers believe they have identified the alleged car thief who stole an automobile Monday morning at a local convenience store.

NAPD Chief Chris Robertson said evidence shows that William Zackery Boseman of Fayetteville, Georgia, a city about 20 miles south of downtown Atlanta, stole the car.

Robertson said Boseman was a passenger in a motor vehicle involved in an accident late Sunday afternoon on Interstate-22 in Union County. The law enforcement agency that worked the wreck transported Boseman to a New Albany motel, where he was to spend the night.

Boseman’s image was captured on video security equipment at the motel. NAPD officers compared that video with the security video footage showing Boseman stealing the 2014 Kia Optima Monday morning at Tony’s Quick Mart, 929 West Bankhead St. in New Albany.

The car’s engine was left idling while the owner was inside the store.

Robertson says Boseman has a prior criminal arrest in Georgia. The mug shot of Boseman at the top of this story was taken at an earlier booking.

Bozeman is a black male, born in 1990. His whereabouts and those of the stolen car are not known at this time.

Those with information that may help with apprehending the perpetrator can call to 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-773-Tips.
