Although his pay will not start until he is sworn into office in January, Sam Creekmore IV was on the job in Jackson two days after the election.

Creekmore won the Republican nomination for the District 14 seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives with a landslide victory over Robbins Ellis Rogers, winning 72 percent of the votes in the August 6th GOP primary.

No Democrat sought the office. Thus, Creekmore has no opponent in the November 5 general election and is effectively elected the new state representative for District 14. His district covers most of Union County.

The job only pays $23,575 a year and will require Creekmore to spend a great deal of time away from two businesses he owns and operates. However, he was already in Jackson on August 8.

“I am starting to establish some connections with leadership and other legislators,” Creekmore said.
