No information was provided concerning what led to the shooting.

UPDATE

New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson said they have identified and are looking for a suspect in a drive-by shooting earlier today.

The suspect is Corey Darrell Collins, 30, of 842 Spruce St. in Hickory Flat. A warrant was issued for his arrest with a charge of drive-by shooting and a request for bond to be set at $50,000.

Anyone with information about Collins’ whereabouts is asked to call the New Albany Police Department at 662-534-2222.

No motive for the shooting was given. An earlier report said that two vehicles stopped in the street in front of the Windshield Doctor but apparently the first vehicle actually pulled into the business parking lot, then the suspect stopped in the road and fired shots with one hitting the business owner’s vehicle.

ORIGINAL STORY

New Albany police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on East Bankhead Street shortly before noon.

Officers were trying to piece together what happened but Police Chief Chris Robertson said people in two vehicles apparently stopped in the middle of the street in front of the Windshield Doctor and some sort of confrontation took place.

One or more shots was fired up in the air but one or more was fired apparently between groups as well.

One of the shots hit the rear fender of Ward Four Alderman Will Tucker’s pickup truck parked in front of his business. Tucker said he was working inside at the time and heard the shots but he was not injured, and apparently no one else was either.

Chief Robertson said they have the information about the people who were shot at and should be able to identify the shooters and take them into custody.

Officers were searching the area for possible shell casings and more information may be available as police continue their investigation.
