Some government offices restoring service after closing due to COVID this past week

All New Albany and Union County schools returned to traditional classroom settings Monday and some government offices cautiously began restoring services.

New Albany City Hall was open with limited access. If you have questions call 662-534-1010.

The Union County Board of Supervisors’ office was staffed and in operation but the door remained locked. Anyone with business for that office is asked to call 662-534-1902. If you need a 911 address, call Curt Clayton at 662-534-1983.

The New Albany Light, Gas and Water Department office on Cleveland Street had both drive-up and in-person service restored Monday, although the number of customers in the lobby was limited.

The Union County Chancery Clerk’s office, which had been closed the past couple of weeks, resumed operation Monday, but with doors still locked. Call 662-534-1900 for assistance.

In the Union County Courthouse, both the Chancery Clerk’s and Tax Assessor-Collector’s offices have remained open, but with limited counter service.

The Union County Library is open but has returned to curb service only. They still offer all services other than computer access. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. If you need to print or fax something, send it to staff@union.lib.ms.us.

The Union County Heritage Museum was closed this past week due to the number of staff members having the coronavirus. Director Jill Smith said she was evaluating the situation Monday and announce later whether the museum would reopen in the next day or two.

Union County had a reported 1,695 COVID-19 cases this weekend with 22 new cases added Sunday. There also was a Union County death Sunday, bringing the county total to 27. Approximately six out of every 100 Union Countians has now been infected, according to state figures. That’s slightly higher than the statewide rate of five percent.

This past week Gov. Tate Reeves reinstated some restrictions including requiring wearing of masks in public buildings and reduced number of persons allowed inside enclosed spaces.
