Stations of the Cross procession marks Palm Sunday

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church held its annual Stations of the Cross pilgrimage Palm Sunday with about 80 participants.

The procession began at the courthouse, moved through downtown and ended on the steps at First United Methodist Church.

The Stations of the Cross commemorate the last day of Jesus Christ’s life before crucifixion with 14 significant events during the day. Prayers and songs are incorporated into each station along with narration culminating with Christ’s being placed in the tomb.

Some years the church has actors portraying the events while in other years such as this year they display icons that are images of the event at each station.

Although St. Francis primarily organizes the event the church has worked with others at times and the public is always welcome to participate.
