The Union County Board of Supervisors approves bids, picks primary county depository bank

The Union County Board of Supervisors opened bids, chose a depository bank for county funds, and appointed a new park commissioner at its Feb. 7

meeting.

The county board opened bids for replacement of a bridge on County Road 81 (Bridge Replacement Project Number UC-739). Estimated cost for the project was $748,034.10.

The supervisors accepted the resignation of Ashley Scott as District 3 Park Commissioner. They then approved the appointment of Ben Wallace as the new District 3 Park Commissioner.

The board approved a contract with Mid-South Auction and Realty to sell surplus county property at an auction on Saturday, March 5.

The board had received bids at its January 17 meeting from banks desiring to act as depository of county funds. Banks submitting bids were BNA, Renasant and BancorpSouth. The board voted to make BNA Bank the county’s primary depository.

Emergency Management Director Kurt Clayton asked the board to let him know what funding would be available for a state contract from ComSouth for radios for all county fire departments.

Clayton also discussed quotes for a recorder at the Union County Jail. He told the board that two quotes were turned in. The lowest quote was from a communications company located in Memphis. The supervisors approved the lowest bid.
Registration and travel expenses for the Justice Court clerks to attend a convention in Tunica, February, 16-18, were approved.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards requested a transport officer, effective February 7th, 2022. The board approved.

The next meeting of the Union County Board of Supervisors will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, at 10 am.
