Two jailed in Union County for Thursday night shooting in Myrtle

An altercation between three or more white youths Thursday night in Myrtle resulted in one
of them being shot and two others charged with felonies.

The incident occurred near the Dollar General Store on the northwest side of
Myrtle between 9 and 10 p.m., May 19th.

One youth was shot in the shoulder, but his wound is not characterized as life
threatening. His identity has not been released by law officers.

Union County law enforcement started working the case about ten o’clock. After
several hours of investigation and searching, Union County Sheriff’s officers
arrested two young men from Benton County at the Myrtle Quick Stop on
Highway 178 between 2:50 and 3:27 a.m.

Arrested at 2:50 a.m. was Dylan Mathews, age 17, of 1083 Highway 4 East,
Ashland, Miss. Mathews was arrested by Union County Deputy Sheriff Mathew
Pannell.

Arrested at the same place at 3:27 a.m. was Landon Ray Gadd, also age 17, of 450
Gadd Road, Hickory Flat, Miss. Gadd was taken into custody by Union County
Deputy Sheriff Tanner Golding.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said Gadd and Mathews were together in one motor vehicle and pursued a second vehicle occupied by four people. The victim was one of the occupants of the pursued vehicle.

Both Gadd and Mathews have been booked into the Union County jail on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder.
